Carolyn Applegate, MGC, CGC Assistant Professor | JHU
Carolyn Applegate, MGC, CGC is a genetic counselor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She has over 15 years of experience providing direct patient care in both general and specialty clinics. She manages the genetic counseling and genetic counseling assistant team consisting of eight genetic counselors and two genetic assistant who provide services in four different clinical departments caring for more than 4,000 patients a year. She has worked with stakeholders across the institution to develop multiple delivery models for genetic counseling services to meet the unique needs of each patient population. Carolyn is a clinical supervisor for genetic counseling students, undergraduate interns, medical students, categorical genetic residents, and non-genetics residents and serve on the Advisory Board for the University of Maryland Master’s in Genetic Counseling program. She developed the curriculum and created the content for the Genetic Assistant Training Program in conjunction with the School of Medicine’s Office of Online Education. This is the first program of its kind in the world and has been taken by over 500 students in 13 different countries. Carolyn’s seeks to expand patient access to genetic medicine services by improving efficiencies through the education of other healthcare providers.
