David Valle, MD is a Professor in the Department of Genetic Medicine (DGM).  From 1988 to 2022, he served as Director of the Predoctoral Training Program in Human Genetics. During this time, the program maintained continuous support on a training grant from NIGMS (5T32GM07814, now in its 40th year) and now has ~ 75 students enrolled in the program.  He is a co-Director of the Maryland Genetics, Epidemiology and Medicine Training Program, a graduate training program designed to cross-train students in Epidemiology in the School of Public Health who have an interest in bench science and Human Genetics. Since 1992, he has served as a co-Director of the Short Course in Medical and Experimental Mammalian Genetics, a two-week course on human genetics sponsored jointly by the Jackson Lab and Johns Hopkins.  He was one of the architects of the Johns Hopkins Genes to Society curriculum for medical students instituted in 2009. He has served on numerous committees dealing with education and ELSI issues and has mentored over 300 students and faculty members over the last 50+ years.
